When Should I Bring My Pet to an Emergency Vet?

As Sydney's south's dedicated 24-hour emergency vet hospital, we see a wide range of urgent cases, from trauma and toxin ingestion to sudden illness and post-surgical concerns.

Bring your pet to us immediately if they:

  • Are having trouble breathing or have collapsed
  • Have been hit by a car or suffered any trauma
  • Are bleeding and it won't stop
  • Are vomiting or having diarrhoea repeatedly
  • Have eaten something toxic, chocolate, grapes, xylitol, medications, or household chemicals
  • Are showing signs of severe pain, weakness, disorientation, or seizures
  • Have had recent surgery and something doesn't look right
  • You're not sure, but something feels wrong

When in doubt, come in. We would far rather see your pet and find nothing serious than have you wait at home.

Who We Are

We're Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS), an independent emergency vet hospital and specialist centre based in Miranda, serving pet owners across Sydney's south, including the Sutherland Shire, St George area, and beyond.

We're not part of a corporate network. VSOS is owned by a specialist vet and built around one thing: giving animals the best possible care, and giving the people who love them an honest, compassionate experience at what is often a very stressful time.

Whether you've rushed in at 2am or been referred by your local vet for something complex, you'll find the same standard of care, the same quality of team, and the same commitment to keeping you informed at every step.

For Referring Vets

We welcome direct visits from pet owners and referrals from local clinics. Our emergency team is available 24/7, and our specialists can take over ongoing care as required.

If you’re a vet needing support with an urgent or complex case, phone our team anytime. We’ll provide a smooth, respectful handover and ensure your client and you are kept informed at every step.
