Dr Matt Annear
BSc BVMS MS MANZCVS DipACVO
Matt graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2002 (BVMS), subsequently relocating to America to undergo internship and residency training in Veterinary Ophthalmology. He is a Specialist Veterinary Ophthalmologist and diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ACVO). While overseas he was on staff as Assistant Professor and Consultant Ophthalmologist at The Ohio State University and completed a Master’s degree researching a canine and human childhood blindness.
Matt has published a number of peer reviewed journal articles and several textbook chapters and enjoys teaching and contributing at international meetings. Matt returned to Australia with his family in 2016 to work in referral specialty practice in Sydney and Canberra.
Matt is strongly committed to improving his patient’s quality of life, holding the animal-human bond in high regard. He has a love for all aspects of ophthalmology, from medical management of eye disease through complicated ophthalmic surgeries.
Matt has extensive surgical experience and performs a wide range of surgical procedures including cataract removal, corneal reconstruction and grafting, and glaucoma surgeries. Matt also works with equine eyes and enjoys the unique challenge that horses bring.

Dr Sarah Coall
BVSc MANZCVS FANZCVS DipECVO
Sarah is a double boarded Veterinary Ophthalmologist with European and Australian certification. Upon completing her formal education in the UK, Sarah embarked on a journey to Sydney, Australia. She underwent her speciality internship and residency training at SASH in Sydney.
With numerous years of dedicated service in various multi-disciplinary specialist hospitals, Sarah has developed a profound expertise in a wide array of areas within veterinary medicine. She possesses comprehensive experience of Internal Medicine and Critical Care, making her a valuable asset in complex veterinary settings.
Passionate about improving clients and patients’ quality of life, Sarah ensures clients are well informed and comfortable via her approachability and communication style. She enjoys sharing her love and knowledge of Ophthalmology with general practitioners, nurses, students and interns.
Her Ophthalmology interests are numerous and she performs a variety of surgical procedures including glaucoma implants, cataract removal and eyelid reconstruction. She has also worked closely with native wildlife, exotics and zoo animals and has assisted multiple organisations including Taronga Zoo and WIRES.

Dr Anne Marx
European board-certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist (Dipl. ECVO
Anne is a European board-certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist (Dipl. ECVO) who completed her specialist training at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany. During her residency, she managed a diverse referral caseload while actively lecturing and teaching final-year veterinary students. Her primary research focused on alternative treatment strategies for ocular surface disease. She has worked in multidisciplinary referral settings, collaborating closely with specialists across disciplines to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for complex ophthalmic cases. Anne is known for her approachable communication style and her commitment to ensuring clients feel informed and supported throughout their pet’s treatment. Her clinical interests include both medical and surgical ophthalmology, including corneal and cataract surgery, adnexal and eyelid procedures, and advanced ocular diagnostic imaging. She is strongly committed to responsible antimicrobial stewardship, minimising prophylactic antibiotic use whenever possible. Passionate about education, Anne delivers continuing education lectures and practical training for veterinarians, nurses, and students, with the goal of making ophthalmology accessible and improving first-line care of ophthalmic diseases.
