Dr Ben McRae
Specialist in Small Animal Surgery

Dr Benjamin McRae graduated from Murdoch University in 2013. Following graduation, he gained extensive experience in general practice and emergency medicine across Adelaide, Victoria, Tasmania, and Perth before relocating to Sydney in 2017.
In 2020, Dr McRae commenced advanced surgical training, completing a surgical internship and achieving Membership in Small Animal Surgery with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS). He subsequently undertook a European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) residency in Small Animal Surgery through Veterinary Specialists of Sydney and The Animal Referral Hospital Canberra.
In 2026, Dr McRae successfully completed his ECVS board examinations and became a registered Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.
Dr McRae has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications in the fields of feline orthopaedics and gastrointestinal surgery, and has presented his research at both national and international scientific meetings. He is actively involved in veterinary education and is passionate about mentoring veterinarians and veterinary students. He has contributed to numerous practical surgical training courses covering topics including fracture management, cranial cruciate ligament disease, patellar luxation, brachycephalic airway surgery, abdominal surgery, and other advanced surgical procedures.
While he enjoys all aspects of small animal surgery, his particular areas of interest include fracture repair, minimally invasive soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, and joint replacement.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr McRae enjoys golf, running, and playing the piano. He lives with his wife Alex, who is also a veterinarian, their son, three Dachshunds, and a cat.
