Our History

Dr Andrew Levien had a vision. His vision was to create a specialist referral hospital that was affordable and high-quality. Accessible to more people in the community. There were steps and a pathway to realise this vision which Andrew had planned for many years before VSOS even existed.

The first step was becoming a specialist which Andrew did through extensive overseas training. After meeting Tabitha, who shared Andrew’s vision, the two of them started VSOS as a mobile surgical service out of their garage in 2017!

Dr Karina Graham, and her husband Simon, had a similar dream and shared the same drive and passion. They imagined a hospital with cutting edge medicine and patient care like no other. In late 2017, Andrew and Karina partnered up. Interestingly, both knew each other from vet school days – they were in the same class!

Fast forward to 2020, they have become leading mobile specialists in Sydney. And their state of the art Advanced Treatment Centre, which provides both specialist referrals and emergency care, has come to life. Coupled with their mobile service, they are the leading providers of veterinary specialist care in Sydney.

Our philosophy

At VSOS, being at the cutting edge of medicine isn’t a logo we like to throw around. It’s part of our very core as specialists, both in our mobile services and our new animal hospital services.

Some of this comes from having trained globally, in some of the most renowned veterinary institutions around the world. But mostly it comes from our specialists’ deep commitment to being leaders in our fields.

Dr Andrew Levien completed a three-year surgical residency at the preeminent Animal Medical Center (AMC) in Manhattan, New York, and trained with with some of the leading veterinary surgeons in the world.

Compassionate, ethical, reliable

Our values are simple: operate with compassion, integrity, reliability and honesty. These are at the very core of VSOS, and every member of our team is deeply committed to these values.

We are all animal lovers first and foremost, and we understand the deep love and commitment pet owners have with their animals. You want to see them happy, healthy and thriving, not suffering from a complicated illness.

And as vets, we also understand the commitment referring vets have for your patients. You want to bring in specialist care, but keep it affordable. And you want to work with specialists in partnership, not as a separate entity.

At VSOS, our priority is pet wellbeing, comfort and restoring quality of life through our specialist expertise.

But we are also equally committed to building partnerships with vets and working with you before and after our specialist surgical or medical services. Always offering the best quality of care to your patients.

Advanced Treatment Centre

When they began working together as the mobile specialists of VSOS, both Dr Andrew Levien and Dr Karina Graham envisioned establishing a state-of-the-art animal hospital that would be a first of its kind in Sydney.

They envisioned an advanced treatment centre with cutting-edge equipment, a 24hr emergency centre that is able to take care of animals whenever they’re in need, and to keep their mobile specialist services available to referring vets throughout Sydney.

And that vision has come to life. In June 2020, VSOS’s brand-new, purpose-built animal hospital opened its doors to offer specialist medical, surgical and mobile services to all pets, their owners and referring vets.

The new hospital is located in the Sutherland Shire and provides world-class, innovative veterinary care to all household animals in need.

Pet owners with a sick animal can bring their pet to the new hospital, if there is an emergency. And vets can refer their patient to VSOS’s specialist team, either at the hospital or through our mobile service. Pet owners can contact us at VSOS if their pet needs specialist care and they’d like to have us consult with their local vet.
