Mischa Minch

Vet Nurse

A natural career

Mischa always loved animals, so it felt like a natural thing for her to go into veterinary nursing. She was working in an office job but found the job wasn’t fulfilling. She needed more. So she went to TAFE and completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

After working in general practice for a number of years, Mischa was looking for more of a challenge. She decided to complete her Diploma in Emergency and Critical Care, which she did in 2014, and she hasn’t looked back.

“I wasn’t getting the kind of challenge I was looking for in general practice, so I made the move to emergency and critical care. It is a very rewarding job. I enjoy the thrill of having emergencies come into the hospital and making sure my patients can get the treatment they need to get better.”

High standards

Part of the appeal of coming to work at VSOS was the location. As a local of the Sutherland Shire, Mischa loves that she can work close to home and be part of the local community. But also, working alongside the incredible VSOS team was a huge drawcard.

“The team here is very experienced. And we’re all here to support each other.

I have worked with Dr Karina Graham before. I know her standards… so I knew I would be walking into a team with equally high standards who shared the same philosophy as Karina.”

Mischa also has a cat Skully, who was called upon in the opening week of the hospital launch to donate blood to one of the VSOS patients. It turns out Skully’s blood type was a match and she happily played her part for a fellow feline.

Outside of work, Mischa has a young daughter with another baby on the way. She also loves camping and snowboarding with her husband and they try to get away whenever they can.
